Artist Statement

I am a papermaker/mixed media artist whose work has been exhibited nationationally and internationally.  I earned a BA degree from Christopher Newport University and a MFA Degree in Visual Studies from Old Dominion University.  While living in Virginia, I was part owner and Director in an art gallery in the Fan District in Richmond, VA.  Multiple solo show include include The Foundry Gallery in Washington, DC, The Bibliotheca Publica, San Miguel de Allende, Mexico, The Health Sciences Center Gallery, Charlottesville, VA and the University of Virginia, Charlottesville, VA.  I also had a joint exhibition with Cuban artist Juan Blanco Lazano at the Charles Taylor Art Center Gallery in Hampton, VA.  Since moving back to Chapel Hill, I have had exhibitions at the Horace Williams House in Chapel Hill and just recently at the Roundabout Art Collective Gallery in Raleigh, NC.

Along with my husband Pac, we have given workshops for students in Cuba and Europe, expanding creativeness and new ideas for my work.

My work has changed over the last two years.  It has become more magical, more whimsical.  When I think of desire or passion or something, this intense spark is what sets miracle making into motion.  Without it, nothing gets accomplished.  Each moment of living becomes significant.  Wonder is sprinkled all sound us.  Art is about discovering new things that make the artist appreciate life.  Each new series sends the artist on a new and different journey.

My love of making handmade paper in combination with collage has become an exciting adventure, leading me to explore new artistic territory.  I now incorporate all types of materials (pastel pencils, permanent art markers, stamps, paint, etc.) and images in my collages.  By scanning images, re-working them digitally, printing them on handmade paper, I obtain images that I would otherwise not be able to achieve.
